NC First in Freedom Festival

Our mission is to celebrate more than 250 years of our Nation’s story and culture viewed through the lens of our historical eastern North Carolina events.

America’s Regional 250th Anniversary Celebration

In 2026, the inaugural North Carolina First in Freedom Festival will celebrate more than 250 years of our Nation’s story and culture viewed through the lens of historical eastern North Carolina events and the arts. Local counties, cities, towns, and communities will unite with local historians and historical sites to host events and activities, as well as with our arts and business communities.

America’s 250th

As we move toward America 250, we will proudly share that story through the upcoming North Carolina First in Freedom Festival — a celebration taking place February 21st through the 28th.

This regional celebration will shine a spotlight on eastern North Carolina — on our eight surrounding counties and their significance, their historical sites, exhibits, and programs — all leading up to the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge.

Eastern North Carolina played a vital role in the American Revolution.

Moores Creek Battleground Association, in collaboration with regional partners, is actively planning a week of celebrating America’s 250th and the 250th Commemoration of the Battle at Moores Creek Bridge.

Celebrating Our Nation's 250th Anniversary

Celebrating the 250th anniversary of America is a monumental occasion that calls for a grand and meaningful celebration. This milestone marks two and a half centuries of history, progress, and the enduring spirit of the nation.

The mission of the Moores Creek Battleground Association is to commemorate and perpetuate the significance of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge through public awareness, educational programs and events, promotion of patriotism, and support and partnership with the National Park Service. The association is the longest-serving support organization for the National Park Service, having been chartered in 1899. Moores Creek Battleground Association has its roots in an earlier memorial association formed in 1857.
